About Us

We’ve been delivering sports coaching sessions to the Islands youngsters for over 15 years and are proud to have been part of the start of so many children’s sporting journey.

Working with children from age from 2 years to 11 years and covering both term time (after and during school/ nursery) and our fantastic holiday clubs, our philosophy is simple: FUN.

What We do

Holiday Club

At Sports Bug, we understand that your choice of childcare during the school holidays is an important decision. You want a flexible service to cover your working hours. You also want your child to benefit from the childcare service that you send them to. That’s why we offer our Holiday Club. Your child will be well looked after in a safe environment allowing you to keep to your work commitments. But at the same time, your child will be learning new skills, engaging in social interaction. And of course, they will be keeping fit and healthy.

Our Holiday Club runs throughout the Jersey school holidays and we try to cover as many different sports that we can be fit into each day.

Our qualified team are on hand to ensure there is structure to each sporting session. This enables the children to get as much exposure to their new skills and equipment as possible.

Holiday Club covers a wide range of sports including football, cricket, tennis, hockey, basketball, rugby, golf, athletics, dodgeball, obstacle courses, volleyball and la cross.

Ages. Our Holiday Club runs from ages 4 (MUST be attending reception) to 12 years of age and runs every school holiday.

Times. Our drop off time is from 830am and you have a choice of finishing at either 12pm, 4pm or 5.15pm.

Venues. We run from Le Rocquier School, St Clement and from Mont Nicolle School, St Brelade (selected dates).

Costs. The prices vary depending on the session you book but start from as little as £18 for a half day session. There are discounts available for early payment and booking more than 4 days within the same week. We are also registered with ‘Jersey Childcare Registration’ which means we can issue a tax certificate upon request at the end of the year that can be submitted with your tax return in order to claim relief upon fees paid.

Sports. We cover football, tennis, cricket, baseball, hockey, rugby, dodgeball, badminton, athletics, golf and anything else our imaginative coaches can plan a session for. Again, our emphasis is on making everything as FUN as possible to engage the children.

Holiday Club FAQ

QUESTION: How are the days split up into sports sessions?
A typical day at Holiday Club consists of 3 sports in the morning of around 45 to 50 minutes with a break in between, a lunch hour from 12pm to 1pm and then 3 sports in the afternoon.

QUESTION: Are the children split into age groups?
Yes. We normally run with three groups of children: 4 & 5 years, 6 & 7 years and then 8+ years group. That being said, we would sometimes move a child up or down if we felt it would benefit them in some way eg if we had a child aged 7 years who was physically/ technically superior in his/ her age group, we may put them into the 8+ group.

QUESTION: I have a child aged 4 & another aged 7, can they be in the same group?
No – although we would consider moving the older child into the younger group if they were both struggling to be apart. Please note that although the children would be in separate groups for sports, they will be together for breaks & lunch so will have plenty of contact time together.

QUESTION: Do you provide food?
No. You will need to provide a packed lunch with plenty of snacks for them and also a refillable water bottle. We have a fridge on site if required. We will provide sweets (jellies) throughout the course of the day here and there for good behaviour & general helpfulness.

QUESTION: Do you issue tax certificates?
Yes. These are issued upon request from the January of the following year of attendance.

QUESTION: What does my child need to wear?
Whatever they are comfortable running around in. Layers work best though so the children can dress up or down accordingly. You don’t need to rush off to buy expensive football strip – unless you’ve had your arm twisted of course!

QUESTION: What items of equipment will I need?
The only items we insist on are shin pads for our soccer bug sessions and a bottle of water in all sessions.

We will provide all other equipment for our sessions; tennis rackets, footballs, cricket bats etc.

QUESTION: Can I pay by the hour instead of the sessions listed?
No. Our sessions are reasonably comprehensive & cover most work hours. The staffing head count is based on the number of children booked in to those times.

QUESTION: I receive Income Support do you provide support for this?
Yes. You will need to complete an application form & book in the intended dates for you child(ren). You will then be issued with an invoice which can be submitted to them for your income support claim. Please note that places will be charged at full rate & not the discounted rate unless payment is received on the date specified on the application form.

Term Time Club

Mini Bug. This is designed for children aged 2 to 4 years and includes specially designed sessions which cover football, tennis, cricket, baseball, hockey, rugby, throwing, catching, balance, co-ordination, counting and colour recognition. All rolled into a 45 minute session spread over 10 weeks.

Junior Bug. The next rung in the ladder from our ‘Mini Bug’ sessions and aimed at children aged 4 to 6 years. These sessions are designed to introduce children to team play, communication and some of the basic techniques needed for the sport they are going to be introduced to over the 10 weeks; football, tennis, cricket, basketball, hockey and rugby.

Soccer Bug. We focus on ensuring that our sessions of football are caring, inclusive and again FUN. Aimed at 4 to 8 years of age we cover the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, tackling and the rules of the game; all through a series of mini games which we’ve put together over the years.

Tennis Bug. Aimed at 4 to 6 years of age and using a series of mini games which will help children develop their skills of swinging the racket and movements needed to move around the court.; all with the specific equipment needed for their particular age.

Term Time Club FAQ

QUESTION: What items of kit/ equipment will I need?
The only items we insist on are shin pads for our soccer bug sessions and a bottle of water in all sessions.

We will provide all other equipment for our sessions; tennis rackets, footballs, cricket bats etc.

QUESTION: Do parents need to attend and/ or join in?
The Mini Bug sessions are as much about giving you things to practice at home with your little one as they are us coaching them within the venue which they’re attending. With that in mind, we at least need parents, guardians or carers in attendance with the child.

For our other sessions, you don’t need to be there. We will have a register with mobile contact numbers so if you have other children to drop off somewhere or shopping to do, please do so. Just check with the coach before you do that we have an up to date mobile contact number.

QUESTION: What does my child need to wear?
Whatever they are comfortable running around in. Layers work best though so the children can dress up or down accordingly. You don’t need to rush off to buy expensive football strip – unless you’ve had your arm twisted of course!

QUESTION: How long are the sessions?
Mini Bug sessions run for 45 minutes. All other sessions run for 60 minutes.

QUESTION: Can I just turn up and pay for a session?
Unfortunately, you can’t. We run our terms for 10 weeks so we like parents to commit to the course. However, it is possible to join partway through a 10 week term and pay for the remaining number of sessions.

Birthday Party FAQ

QUESTION: Which venue should I book?
It all depends on what you need to do as regards catering – ie do it yourself or have someone do it for you; so somewhere with a café or somewhere with a kitchen. We have done our parties in pretty much every venue on the Island from Springfield Stadium, Les Quennevais and the Parish Halls.

QUESTION: Can you come do a party on the beach or parks?
Yes. We can cater for the venue as well as catering for the children we have in front of us.

QUESTION: What happens if its raining and we have an outdoor venue booked?
We obviously cant guarantee the weather so unless you have an indoor back up, we’d be looking to try and go ahead wherever possible. In the case of a same day cancellation, we would refund you 50% of the fees paid.

QUESTION: What happens on the day?
We will do some games which will keep all of the children entertained. We normally do 3-4 activities with a little water break in between each.
